Local Talk 5 1/2 Years Later Part 1
Mad Mats & Tooli began Local Talk five and a half years ago with a view to release quality house music from across the spectrum. They've remained pretty true to their original ethos and have grown into quite a force since their inception. 80 releases later and the label offer up their first proper compilation to date. Split across two parts and featuring a wealth of talent. On part 1 we find a dark, bassline driven house jam from Art Of Tones and "Violation" - a track so undeniably Local Talk that it makes total sense to start off with this. Rampant live bass and compressed to fuck percussion, funky sax and slamming kick combine to make what would be one of the early Local Talk blueprints. NYC's DJ Spinna goes on a feel-good deep house romp as "Tie It Up" unloads blissed out hooks to the unsuspecting crowd. Flip the disc and Sean McCabe opts for a peaktime burner as "It's My Life" includes glorious vocals and tight broken beat rhythms in its sonic dossier. Finally, Corrado Bucci offers up the leftfield cosmic house of "Atacama Desert" - pumping side chains working on a plethora of scorched hooks and funky licks. Great stuff - bring on part 2!
